Receive and check
Check that the supplied product and presentation match the order. Inspect the packaging and container for damage, confirm the batch and expiry details, and set aside any product whose integrity is uncertain. Keep the leaflet with the original labelled container.
Follow product-specific conditions
Use the temperature, light-protection and storage instructions on the exact product leaflet. Do not assume that every injectable needs refrigeration or that a barn, car or equipment cupboard provides suitable conditions. Ask the supplier or veterinarian about any temperature excursion.
Rotate stock deliberately
Arrange stock so that the earliest suitable expiry is used first. Track any in-use period specified after opening. Separate expired, damaged or unidentified medicines from usable stock so they cannot be selected accidentally.
Control access and disposal
Keep medicines and used administration materials secure from children, visitors and animals. Maintain clear separation from feed and food. Obtain local advice for disposal of medicines, containers and sharps; do not improvise a disposal route.
